Twelve brave souls got out of the minibus on the Gairnshiel Road
at the start of the walk, with problems just staying upright and
a few gloves, hats etc, being chased all over the road, and
verges.
Once we got moving with the wind behind us we soon reached
Morven Lodge.
Just before the ford Anne headed off to return to Ballater via
Lary.
The wind increased as we climbed the landrover track and Mike
suggested a bite to eat before getting into the real teeth of
the wind. This was taken in and around some convenient grouse
butts.
Once at the high point in the path decisions were made with
Kathleen, Linda, Alec, Alex and Guy staying low level and the
others myself, Mike, Andrew, Garry, Craig and Will headed up the
SW ridge. The low level group walked via Tullich to Ballater
where some then ascended Craigendarroch hill.
The summit group were met by ferocious wind/gusts at the summit
so stayed only for a few photos then headed directly south off
the ridge. Garry headed back to take the minibus to Ballater.
Once about half way down we stopped for lunch at a great spot
picked out by Craig.
Thereafter we also returned to Ballater via Tullich Cemetery and
the Deeside Railway path.
A satisfying day giving everyone a good workout in challenging
conditions.
