This
Meet was to the superb Mountaineering Scotland hut in Glen
Brittle. Skye is my favourite place to adventure in and the
opportunity to do this in the company of other Cairngorm Club
members was not to be missed.
On the Saturday people split into different groups, the largest
group heading up Coire Lagan to have a look at Collies Ledge (or
Harts Ledge as it is also known).
Ewelina Szczeblewska (Evi) and I decided to try a section of the
Cuillin Ridge starting at the An Dorus gap, heading north. Most
of the decent pictures here are taken by Evi.

Loch Coruisk from An Dorus
We walked up from the Youth Hostel via Coire a Ghreadaidh, which
wasn't too bad by Cuillin ascent standards.
The three
tops of Mhadaidh.
We then scrambled up to the munro summit of Sgurr a Mhadaidh
then the three tops of Mhadaidh. The conditions were a bit damp
as it had rained a lot on previous days, which made the
scrambling a bit tricky. On a chilly October day there's not
much heat around to dry the rock, and although it didn't rain
until late afternoon, it remained that way for the day.
Top class
scrambling all day
We encountered the most difficult part of the trip here. Between
two of the tops we crossed a damp slabby section which wasn't
very nice underfoot. We got the rope out and crossed it but it
was a tad uncomfortable.
Lunch at Bealach Na Glaic Moire
We then arrived at the Bealach Na Glaic Moire and stopped for
lunch in one of the bivi shelters which people have constructed.
The weather at this point was looking up, the clouds had lifted
and the temperature had increased.
The next section was the three peaks of Bidein Druim Nan Ramh.
This was more sustained scrambling, and one section is graded
'Difficult' but it has just one exposed move. We got the rope
out a couple of times to make sure we didn't fall off though.
The exposure on most of the scrambling sharpens the mind.
We got the rope out now and then

The rain started as we finished the last of the three peaks
which was fortunate and we headed off down what I think is
called Coire Harta towards the infamous Fairy pools. This
descent was not very pleasant with lots of loose scree and
larger rocks and boulders moving without much provocation.
Coire Harta, not my first
choice for a descent path
The long descent then the long trudge along by the fairy pools
was followed by a long trudge along the road to the Youth Hostel
where we had parked the car. We had hoped to hitch a lift but
the one car that passed us obviously didn't fancy having two
soaking wet people on his white seat covers, so we arrived back
at the hut in the dark just in time to sit down to Helen's
smashing chicken curry and listen to all the other tales of the
day's adventures.
Next day the weather wasn't suitable for the rocky ridge so
Debbie Fielding and myself had a walk up the Corbett Garbh
Bheinn, which was fun too, as we climbed up through the clouds
into better weather, always a bonus.
