Glen Ey

An Socach to Glen Ey – 21st June

On Sunday 21st June our day meet travels by minibus with space for 14 people (inc. room for bags). The summer days will allow us the leisure of departing St. Margaret’s at 8am, onto the A93, with pick-ups possible en route.

From Glen Shee the President’s Party will head up the Baddoch Burn and towards the Munro An Socach, aiming to traverse from east to west via Sgor Mor. By this route the day is 19.5km / 600m, with good track in Glen Ey and offering a great opportunity to visit the Club-funded wood enclosure at Altanour.

Alternatives are possible: a range of much shorter walks could be enjoyed by riding back in the minibus to Braemar or Glen Ey, for example up Morrone with plenty time either side. A longer walk would be possible for anyone confident in their pace by heading north from An Socach and descending from Morrone (24km / 1,000m). A slightly more feasible variation would be to diverge from Sgor Mor instead (19km / 920m).

The minibus will collect the President’s Party in Inverey, with pick-ups of course possible in Braemar also. Please let me know if you intend to take an alternative route.

We expect to have time for a pub/chipper stop in Braemar or Ballater, and should be back in Aberdeen around 8pm.

To book your place on this meet contact Vay: vaymutch@pm.me. The cost will be £20. Please indicate if you wish to be picked up anywhere other than St. Margarets.
