Friday’s Aberdeen/Westhill start to Corgarff Castle by 10 am probably using maxi taxi with stop for toilet/refreshment break. Return Monday pm from Keiloch to Aberdeen by 201 bus.  Latest commitment time is 30th April. All contribute to the planning and organisation. It’s a team effort with limited numbers, about exploration rather than daily distances and is not intended as a race.  However, at times, it will be steep, loose ground, dark and pathless. You: fit, organised, with mountain tent. Rucksack weight ambition: 11 kg or less.  Some kit needs sharing. Contacts Guy Bromby and Mike Duguid.

The viewpoint indicator on the summit of Lochnagar was “unveiled” on 12 July 1923 (see CCJ no. 62 (Sept. 1923), pp. 53-73, with photos; available via the Club website), and a centennial commemoration is therefore planned. The minibus (or possibly coach, if numbers justify that) will start from St. Margaret’s School near Holborn Junction in Aberdeen at 8am, and by prior arrangement can pick folk up along the North Deeside Road.  That should mean a start from the Spital of Glen Muick about 9:30am, and arrival by all at the summit by say 1pm, for perhaps a short "ceremony". With the Glas Allt descent, we should be back at the Spital by 5:30pm, allowing a meal in mid-Deeside at say 6:30pm. Costs (transport and meal), and indeed all arrangements, yet to be confirmed! To book, contact Ken Thomson.

Orkney Caravan Park, Kirkwall (Sue Chalmers) The venue for the Club’s July meet is Orkney Caravan Park which can accommodate tents and campervans, and also has a few camping pods.  There may not be any Munros in Orkney but “in the west of Mainland there is such a concentration of spectacular neolithic remains that it has been declared a World Heritage site - one of only three in Scotland. The remains include the well-preserved prehistoric village of Skara Brae, Maes Howe - the most magnificent of all neolithic tombs, and the spectacular standing stones at Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar. Much of the coastline offers grand walking, with dramatic cliff-scenery and bird life, with Marwick Head and the tidal Brough of Birsay being highlights in the west, and Mull Head in the east.”  For those wishing to explore further afield, South Ronaldsay is accessible via the Churchill Barriers, and Shapinsay and Rousay by regular ferries.  If you would like to join this meet, please book the campsite online and contact Sue Chalmers to let her know you are attending.
